Femme FATAL is a film festival that showcases female-led projects in the horror and sci-fi genre. We created a space to uplift filmmakers that are underrepresented, where their exceptional projects can be seen.

Join us by submitting your project to femmefatalshortsfest@gmail.com

How it began…

This festival was born from a private screening in Los Angeles for Froggy, a film written and directed by Amelia Joyce, and produced by Roberta Sparta.

While planning the private event, Amelia and Roberta decided to use the opportunity to not only invite their communities to view their project, but share the event with other filmmakers, and on a larger scale. They called in cinematographer and She-Crew founder, Sarah Phillips, to join as a sponsor and host.

The free tickets ran out, and they screened six incredible films, plus added a Q&A with the cast and crew of each film.

With the success and turnout of Femme FATAL 2023, Roberta and Amelia are excited to bring this event back in October 2024. This time, they are opening it up to the public as an official event. And again in time for the Halloween season.

This festival brought together a wonderful network of industry, and non-industry genre film fans. With support, it can only expand into an annual experience that we can all look forward to.

2023 projects

We’re looking for like-minded partners who align with our goal in creating a moment for female-identifying and non-binary creatives in film. Celebrating independent filmmakers and writers within the horror genre, for the 2nd year of the Femme FATAL Film Festival.

This is a fantastic opportunity for brands looking to reach a sophisticated audience of entertainment professionals and horror aficionados. We offer merch, ticket, step & repeat, and on-stage branding opportunities.

There will be a Q&A following the screening where filmmakers, screenwriters, audience members, and sponsors, can interact one-on-one.

Sponsorship Opportunities

The team

AMELIA JOYCE WRITER | DIRECTOR

Amelia Joyce is a Photographer and Director, based in Los Angeles. She is the owner of agency, Boys Club Creative, and film production company, Black Dog Media.

A former New Yorker, Amelia cut her teeth as a music photographer, which led to directing projects across the music and fashion industries. She has spent the last 20+ years dedicated to commercial and branded content, working directly with iconic fashion designers, musicians, and artists. Amelia’s client list includes Vogue magazine, LiveNation UK/USA, Prince, Roger Waters, Sony Music, Spin Magazine, and BBDO.

Her award-nominated eco-horror project, Froggy, is currently running in the 2024 festival circuit.

ROBERTA SPARTA PRODUCER

Roberta is the founder of Sparta Productions, an LA-based media company built on the principles of authenticity, collaboration, and excellence.

Sparta moved from Italy to the States to pursue her career as an actress. After her success on “Star Wars,” she decided to bring her curious and entrepreneurial mind to production. Roberta found herself to be a natural First Assistant Director and that helped her develop critical scheduling skills and a profound understanding of all departments and the movie-making process.

Becoming a producer was a natural evolution. Sparta's most recent credits include the star-studded, highly anticipated Western "Buffalo Daze" and Lifetime Original, "Abducted at an HBCU," directed by Delmar Washington, starring Garcelle Beauvais.

Roberta’s collaboration with Amelia Joyce started with the award-nominated co-horror short "Froggy" and continued with the creation of "Femme Fatal," motivated by the desire to shed a light on underrepresented filmmakers.

BONNIE ROBLES EVENT DIRECTOR

With over 20 years’ experience in special event sales and production, Bonnie Robles has experience producing awards shows, premiere parties, and screenings at all levels. Currently, she is the Director of Special Event Sales at The Hollywood Palladium, which hosted the Writers Guild Awards (West Coast), and the UnitedMasters celebration of independent artists Grammy showcase in 2024.

A life-long horror genre fan, Bonnie enjoys watching cult favorites on Shudder, and getting cozy with the latest Stephen King book.

SOPHIE WESTACOTT EVENT DIRECTOR

Sophie Westacott is a Special Events and Publicity professional with over two decades of experience across diverse sectors in Los Angeles and New York. Her career spans film, theater, and museums, including roles at Miramax Films, Madison Square Garden Entertainment, and the California Science Center. Currently serving as Director of Special Events and Filming at the Natural History Museum, Sophie brings a unique perspective to event production, fundraising, and audience engagement.

This sums up why Sophie supports Femme FATAL Film Fest:

“One hundred percent of the top American films of 1954, the year Creature from the Black Lagoon was released, were directed by men. Ninety-six percent of the top American films for 2016, the year I started writing this book, were directed by men. In sixty-two years, we have improved gender equality in American film directing by four percent. At this rate, we'll be colonizing Mars before we see an equal number of female directors.”
